Yesterday evening, Kevin Gregg blew yet another save for the Cubs. While he’s only blown 5 out of 26 opportunities this year, he seems strictly to be a two-run closer. He always gives up a run, so he needs a two-run lead. Case in point, Sunday evening against the Marlins, the Cubs take a 2-1 lead into the ninth, then with one-out, back-to-back home runs by Dan Uggla and Cody Ross, Cubs lose. What makes this even more ridiculous is that the Cubs already have a closer. His name is Carlos Marmol. Unlike Gregg, Marmol throws strikes that aren’t right down the middle of the plate, can get a strikeout occasionally, and actually has an out pitch, the slider. Kevin Gregg wasn’t a great closer to begin with, it’s time to give Carlos Marmol his job.
